The First Mark of a Disciple: Love = Obedience
This isn't a test, and nobody's grading you. It's a chance to be honest about how you're following Jesus.
Answer honestly and talk to God as you go. Then bring it with you when you meet with your leaders. Rate each statement using this scale.
If anything here brings up hurt, talk to one of your leaders or another adult you trust. If someone is hurting you, please tell a trusted adult straight away. You don't have to carry it alone.
Am I following Jesus, or just agreeing with Him?
I show I love God by doing what He says, not just by how I feel.
When the Bible says something I don't like, I do it anyway instead of arguing.
When I know what God wants, I do it straight away, not “later”.
I do what God says even when it's not easy or not cool.
Do I obey because I trust Him?
When I don't understand why, I still trust that God knows best.
I obey God because He loves me, not because I'm scared of Him.
I believe God's ways are there to protect me, not to ruin my life.
I don't change what God says to fit what I want.
What I do first shows who I follow most.
I give God my best time, not just whatever is left over.
I pray and read the Bible even when I'm busy with school, sport or friends.
I put my phone down so I can spend time with God.
I don't use “I'm too busy” as an excuse to skip time with God.
Obeying starts in my head before it shows in what I do.
When a wrong thought comes, I deal with it quickly instead of letting it stay.
I don't keep watching, scrolling or thinking about things I know don't please God.
When I'm worried or scared, I go to God and His Word.
I don't let jealousy, anger or wanting payback take over my mind.
I don't excuse wrong thinking just because no one can see it.
My words show who I'm following.
I don't gossip or talk behind people's backs, online or in person.
I tell the truth, even when it gets me in trouble.
I say sorry quickly when I'm wrong.
I use my words to build people up, not put them down.
I watch what I say when I'm angry, including in texts and comments.
Loving God shows in how I treat people.
I forgive people and don't hold grudges.
I'm kind and patient with my family, even when it's hard.
I respect my parents or carers, even when I don't agree with them.
I include people instead of leaving them out.
I choose God's way even when my friends want me to do something wrong.
Integrity is doing what's right when no one is watching.
I'm honest with my schoolwork and tests, and I don't cheat.
I do my best at school, at home and in jobs I'm given.
I do my work as if I'm doing it for Jesus.
I keep my promises and do what I said I'd do.
I'm faithful in small things, like chores and being on time.
Obeying gets tested when it costs me something.
I obey God even when it means missing out.
I obey God even when my friends don't get it.
I'd rather follow Jesus than be popular.
I stand up for what's right, even when it's awkward.
Disciples don't obey once. They keep on obeying.
I keep following Jesus even when I feel down or far from God.
I keep doing what's right even when nobody notices.
When I mess up, I go back to God quickly instead of hiding.
I'm following Jesus more now than I was a year ago.
I want to follow Jesus for my whole life.
